Kalahari Wildcat - Stock Footage
With Genetic Science scientists are now certain that today's domestic cats are descended from the African wild cat. Slightly larger than a domestic cat, the African Wildcat can be found in almost any type of habitat from open rocky ground to scrubby brush and agricultural croplands and as you can figure out from this clip, the Kalahari Wildcat also known as the African Wild Cat, lives almost entirely on small mammals and insects.

These cats are becoming increasingly rare in southern africa due to their ability to breed with domestic cats and from the associated diseases transmitted to these wild cats from their domestic cousins.

The Wildcat footage is shot in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park that is located between the borders of Namibia and Botswana. It is shot with a Sony DSR130 camcorder and it is supplied in flattened QuickTime format. It is captured in DV-PAL format dimensions, 720 x 576 pixels, at a frame rate of 25 fps.

PAL versus NTSC
Traditionally, conversion from PAL to NTSC footage has been a costly process. Now software such as After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Vegas and Premiere all have solutions for converting from one format to the other. We convert each frame of PAL to a single image - as if it was shot on film - and then we print it to either 2 or 3 NTSC fields. The result look much like film converted to video.
